ACT FUNDING AND SUPPORT

The Arts and Culture Trust (ACT) funds and supports through a programmatic funding model (supporting and funding through different programmes) that makes contributions to sector practitioners from student level to arts professionals and professional organisations that fit within the different programmes’ criteria.

APPLY FOR FUNDING / SUPPORT

When applying for funding or for any of our programmes, applicants must make sure that the satisfy all the requirements as per the programme they are applying for. All programmes have varied timeframes for funding and it’s the Applicant’s responsibility to take note of the dates published on the website.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

When we consider proposed projects and activities, we look at the following: *
• Only South African nationals may apply.
• Projects must take place in South Africa.
• We encourage applications for interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary work.
• To be eligible, artists and arts organisations must be operational when applying.
• Projects that prioritise local audiences.
• Projects that are within the arts and culture sector.

WHAT WE DO NOT FUND OR SUPPORT

The Arts and Culture Trust will not support the following: *
• Applications which are focussed primarily on non-professional development and training.
• Purely academic research not linked to the arts and culture sector.
• Conduit organisations that are not the end users of the project funds.

Adjudication Process


STEP 1

The ACT Programmes Manager and appointed officers by the Trust reviews the applications to verify the requirements as set in the application forms.

STEP 2

Based on the initial review a number of applications are shortlisted and researched in preparation for step 3.

STEP 3

The shortlisted applications are submitted to the ACT Projects committee members for further review.

STEP 4

The Projects committee hold a meeting to decide on the successful applications to be awarded Grants.

STEP 5

Once approved at the Project committee meeting, the successful projects will be contacted and contracts drawn up.

* Please note that different programmes will have a slight variation in the process but basic procedure is identical.

It takes a minimum of 45 days to review Applications, after the closing date. Should it take longer, applicants are welcome to contact ACT to track progress of their application.

All unsuccessful applications will be notified.
