The Costume Institute at Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) announces an award to support a Curatorial Assistant in the Curatorial Training Programme focusing on costume. The selected participant will gain valuable experience and skills by participating in all components of the running of the Costume Institute. By learning practical skills, this programme will prepare a practicing professional or a recent graduate for a career working as a curator or archivist of costume in a museum, art gallery, publication, or commercial brand.
The Costume Institute at Zeitz MOCAA is dedicated to the collecting, preserving, researching, and exhibiting of contemporary costume, fashion, and body embellishment by designers from Africa, its Diaspora and beyond. Through a varied programme of exhibitions, events, educational activities, and happenings, the institution will engage a diversity of audiences with all facets of contemporary costume and will be a catalyst for critical engagement with the discipline.
The selected participant will have a passion for innovative contemporary costume practices and discourses; knowledge of major practices defining the discipline locally and globally; an interest in costume’s history, interpretation, construction, and care; a desire to critically engage with the discipline; and knowledge of major developments in the fashion industry, including garment production and technology.
